December 2020 Newsletter from the Executive Steering Committee
Dear Neighbors,
This has been an incredibly tough and demanding year for all of us. The LSRHNA believes that as family, friends and neighbors we have met the challenge—and that 2021 will mercifully bring healing and confidence back to all of us. Despite all these travails, we were busy working for you. Some of our accomplishments in 2020 included:
2040 Plan: The LSRHNA has been instrumental in stating to the City and its consultant that we want our neighborhood protected from high-rise development on Lincoln Avenue, preservation of single-family-homes and a loud voice in the final determinations of this plan that will govern growth and civic unity for the next 20 years.
Goats and Defensible Space: We have been actively fighting for more protections on our fire-prone Hill for more than four years. We have been first-in-line for the goats and clearing of City-owned open space this year. The City has responded to our needs—but will require additional monitoring. The LSRHNA will be there for all of you in this ongoing effort.
Neighbor-to-Neighbor Program: Our new mayor, Kate Colin, founded this out outreach effort to encourage neighbors to reach out to those most in need, including those with mobility and health issues that require special attention and care. We have been working in our neighborhood and with other neighborhoods to make this program a success. Good relations with a new mayor have been a significant side benefit.
Safe Evacuation Routes: The City and the new Marin Wildfire Prevention Authority have made developing these routes a priority for all of us. The LSRHNA has provided much-needed input to the City—and will be providing you with more information as these plans are finalized in 2021.
Robert Dollar Drive: The parking areas as the top of RDD have become havens for loud, drunken and boisterous parties of young people at night. We have been working with the Department of Public Works, Police and Fire Departments for the last four months to come up with a solution that brings peace to our neighbors—and still allow for visitors to enjoy one of the City’s most beautiful scenic views from the top of RDD.
Disaster Preparedness: We have submitted a $500 grant application to the Federation of Neighborhoods to provide disaster supplies (food, mylar blankets, lanterns, etc.) that will be stored at the Lincoln Hill Church, our triage center in the event of an earthquake, extended black out, etc. Next year, we hope to match or exceed this amount by ourselves—and provide even more supplies for that eventual time of need.
New Property Developments: We continue to monitor new housing developments in our neighborhood, as well as the surrounding areas. We are also fully invested in the Federation of Neighborhoods, as well as monitoring other activities in the City, e.g., building permits, the Design and Review Board, Planning Commission, etc. It’s always a good idea to have a watchful eye.
All of these efforts demand time, effort and help from you. We ask that you contribute whatever you can afford; whether it’s a $10 membership fee, or a larger contribution of $25 or $50 (or more!) contribution to support us. Please mail your check to: LSRHNA, PO Box 150983, San Rafael, CA 94915-0983.
Please help us—so that we can continue to help you and your neighbors.
