National Make a Difference Day - October 24, 2009

SRCTF is joining forces with the City of San Rafael Volunteer Group to conduct this year's grand event.  The national "Make a Difference Day" program coordinates thousands of people around the country to do just about anything that positively impacts the community: cleaning streets, helping a family member or volunteering at the hospital.

On October 24th, at 9:30am, hundreds of volunteers will start a march down fourth street like a modern-day bucket brigade.  The goal: clean graffiti, pick up litter and have a great time!  The tools: Home Depot and SRCTF have donated supplies for the event; paint, safety masks and graffiti-clean spray are all compliments of the San Rafael store.

The morning's events will include registration, a kick off speech by Mayor Boro, a brief Graffiti and Safety Clinic for volunteers and business participants, followed by a three-hour, 300-store march.

"We have great volunteers, but to make the event successful we need the whole business community to participate.", stated Michael Birkhead, Executive Director for the San Rafael Community Task Force.  "Residents and volunteers are only half of the solution; local businesses, business groups and property owners make up the other half - come out and have some fun!".

For more information on the event or to sign up, visit http://www.sanrafaelclean.org/ or call (415) 485-3507.

Community Change Action Plan

The City Council, at their April 8th meeting, adopted one of the first Climate Change Action Plans (CCAP) in the state, pursuant to AB 32.  The plan details how the city will meet the state requirement to reduce our carbon footprint by 15% by 2020.  The plan emphasized that there is no easy fix towards meeting the goals and it will take the efforts of the entire city.  Elements of the plan call on the neighborhoods to participate in the effort.  The LSRHNA is currently looking at ways we can be active participants.  One idea is to offer free energy audits of homes and apartment, a service offered by California Youth Energy Services.  Another part of the plan calls for community gardens.  If you have any interest or concern about either of these items, please contact us.

Federation of San Rafael Neighborhoods Monthly Meeting
